Developed an automated email account migration process for a national bank to migrate approximately 22,000 legacy MS Mail users to Microsoft Exchange and Outlook. This custom, automatic migration process supports a unique business process that required each individual migration to be user-initiated. It is currently in operation where approximately 6,000 of 22,000 users have been migrated. In support of this process, I developed an Exchange Mailbox Agent using C, VC++, Win32, MAPI, EDK (Exchange Developers Kit), and DAPI (Directory API) that automatically switched user email destinations from their legacy accounts to their pre-created mailboxes. I also developed a migration control database application with SQL Server 6.5, ADO, and Active Server Pages (VBScript) that walks migration administrators through the business process of selecting users for migration, and generates the necessary files to preprocess and start migrations for groups of users. The application also automatically processes status messages emailed to it from different stages of the migration process and presents business managers with trend analysis and corporate/business unit migration status reports. I call the resulting system the "Microsoft Migration Server."

As Lead Architect and Program Manager, I guided the transition of a major discount brokerage firm from dissatisfaction and distrust of Microsoft products and services to the full embrace of Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Windows NT, and Microsoft Office. I prepared a proposal and manpower estimates for a rapid deployment project and delivered the project's Design, Migration Plan, Rollout Plan, Training, and Operations/Support documents while providing issue/problem escalation/resolution. This directly resulted in the customer approving a $312k services contract and a $5.1 million select agreement. During the project, I applied a milestone-based approach that resulted in moving 12,000 users from multiple legacy email systems to Microsoft Exchange in 4 months.

Designed and implemented a secure remote email access solution that integrated the Exchange Web Access Client (currently OWA) in a high security, triple-homed bastion host DMZ environment. This effort involved the integration of multiple Microsoft products and required extensive coordination between PSS and three Microsoft product groups.

Worked as program manager in a development team of a major athletic shoe and apparel manufacturer to develop a business application based on a 3-tier client-server architecture. Lead the team on a very ambitious delivery schedule; met all of the project's objectives on-time and under budget.

Assisted in the design and construction of a maintenance work order and job tracking system for a major truck manufacturer. In troubleshooting the database conversion process, designed and implemented complex analysis queries for the application database. These analysis queries generate queries on a relational database that identify inconsistencies in referential integrity based on the state of the foreign keys of the database. These analysis queries can generally be applied to any relational database.

Selected as the Systems Engineering Lead on the FBI's Interstate Identification Index (III) database modernization project. This project centers on a migration from mainframe to client/server technology.

Designed an enterprise level, high performance, mission-critical, client/server database system incorporating symmetric multiprocessing computers (SMP), Oracle7's Parallel Server, Tuxedo's on-line transaction processing (OLTP) monitor, and redundant array of inexpensive disks (RAID) technology. This design was submitted to FBI acquisitions as part of a competitive bid and was selected over several other bids for a significant $180 million development contract win.

Designed and managed the development of an enterprise-level client/server automated auditing application for the cost management division of a major long-distance telephone service provider (migrating from mainframe computers, db2, and FOCUS to a workgroup oriented, client/server architecture involving Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT Advanced Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle7, and UNIX).

Conducted extensive trade studies of a large number of vendors that offer leading-edge technologies; these studies identified proven (low-risk) implementations of SMP and RDBMS systems that met stringent performance and availability criteria.

Consolidated and documented the SPAWAR OSS Laboratory's Testing, Demonstration, and Training databases onto a single server, maximizing the use of the laboratory's computing resources.

Successfully integrated and delivered (to the USCG on time) an $80,000 HP 9000/750 Server consisting of 8 Gigabytes of disk space and 12 software systems that required extensive porting work and documentation. The software systems included: Emerald (1.02 & 1.03), Unified Build (JOTSII), Sybase, Oracle, VPE, Rapport, Z-Mail, elm, Oilstock, ELT-2 (imaging), and Pixel!FX. This configuration was used as the standard for assembly line implementations of many such servers on HP-UX, Ultrix, AIX, and Solaris.

Conducted an arduous port of a large software system (Emerald 1.03) from DEC platforms to the HP 9000 for the Defense Intelligence Agency and the ADNET.

Implemented and managed the DMS Central Projects Beta Test Facility; integrated over $117,000 in hardware and software.

Proposed and obtained approval of a $1.6 million budget to develop the DMS Beta Testbed Network.

Conducted a feasibility study on a development project that resulted in a $172,000 cost savings on planned equipment acquisitions.

Designed a maintenance reporting program that converted the labor-intensive task of producing weekly status reports from a 4-day to a 2-hour process.

Developed a departmental computer literacy training program, teaching classes on microcomputer operating systems, office automation software, and introductory programming.

Taught the "Structured Programming and Problem Solving" course for the City Colleges of Chicago after work hours.
